What can I donate?

Volunteer, Kim, sorting through donations
Every shop is different, from what they look like to where they are and what they sell - and so is what you can donate. We appreciate your donations and your support but unfortunately we can’t sell everything, and it can cost us money to dispose of things that our charity shops cannot use. We know that you want to help us and make it as smooth as possible. That’s why we have created a list of what you can and can’t donate at our shops, and how to do it.

Where your money goes

Every pound you spend helps fund vital care. Shop in the knowledge that your hard earned cash is being used by Demelza to provide specialist care and emotional support for children and their loved ones.

Demelza’s Retail team have been working hard to make sure that our branches and operations will be as safe as they can be. We are following Government advice and guidelines, and have risk assessments in place in every location to ensure the safety of both customers and our teams. We will be constantly reviewing these in line with national restrictions and guidance.

All retail branches will be observing 1m+ social distancing measures where possible, along with hand sanitiser on entry which we would encourage customers to use when visiting us. There may be queuing to allow us to keep safe and managed numbers of shoppers within our branches and we will serve our customers as soon as it is safe to do so.

All staff and volunteers will continue to wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) including face coverings. Sneeze guard Perspex screens will be in place at the tills to provide additional protection for both staff, volunteers and customers alike. Our donations will be quarantined for 24 hours, and are steamed and cleaned before going out for sale, and our changing rooms will now be available at the local managers discretion for use with regular cleaning in place. We will also have the NHS track and Trace QR codes in all of our locations for those continuing to use this service.

With the exception of our Eastbourne branch, which is undergoing construction work, all of our shops are open. Please do check our shops pages as this will be updated in the event of closures or a change in opening hours.

Parkwood is part time.

All of our shops are able to accept donations – we’re particularly grateful at the moment for current summer clothing to make up the shortfall that closures have bought about.

Please check what items you can donate before making your journey.

Following the updated national guidance, we would ask that customers please wear a face covering while visiting our shops to continue protecting themselves, others and our teams.

We will also be continuing to ask our staff to wear face coverings to ensure both customers and teams stay as safe as possible.

We are now accepting donations at all open shop locations. You can check our full list of items we are able to accept, and these we are unable to accept here.

You can help us further by considering whether they are in a good, clean condition and in working order before bringing them in. If you're wanting to donate furniture or bulkier items, please take a look at our Furniture collection page, or alternatively you can email at

There may be occasions where our shops are unable to accept donations due to capacity, waste costs and safety but you can find alternative Demelza locations to donate to.

Please don't forget to Gift Aid your donation if you can, to help make your donation go further!

Our donation shed at Demelza Kent will be open from 1 September 2021. We ask that during drop-off you do not enter the Kent reception, this is a necessary safety measure to reduce traffic to the hospice building, which keeps the risk of infection to children, families and staff to an absolute minimum.

You can email queries to or call our main line on 01795 503110. Alternatively, we have lots of information on our website about how, what and when you can donate to us which is worth checking on first.

For furniture donation queries, please email or contact our Maidstone Outlet or Rainham furniture shop directly.

We are able to offer collection and delivery (subject to driver availability and location) on furniture and bulky items, and would request that a doorstep service is in place where possible. All of our drivers will be wearing face coverings, and using sanitiser.

Please note that you will be asked when booking if you or a member of your household has COVID symptoms, or has recently tested positive for COVID.

If you are interested in our collection or delivery service please visit our Furniture collection page for more information, or email to arrange.

We encourage our customers to use contactless payment as the safest method, but will be glad to accept cash as a form of payment if this is not possible. Our staff and volunteers will guide you through the transaction to ensure infection risk is kept to a minimum.

Yes. In addition to our existing items in stores, we will be isolating or ‘quarantining’ donated stock for 24 hours as a precaution. All items are steamed or cleaned before going out on sale.

We are sorry that we will not be able to accept all donations due to suitability and our own capacity. Please, do check your own local council website for advice on guidance on recycling centres, or approach other charities that may need your particular items. As always, thank you so much for thinking of Demelza.
