Demelza nurse attends APPG for children who need palliative care
A Demelza nurse was among the attendees at the All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) for children who need palliative care held during Children’s Hospice Week.
Lead Nurse Helen Rolls was at the reception which was held by Together for Short Lives (TfSL) at Westminster yesterday (Tuesday).
TfSL CEO, Nick Carroll, spoke about the vital role children’s hospices play in providing not only care and compassion but also moments of joy and happiness for children and families facing difficult circumstances.
He stressed that hospices are more than healthcare providers – they provide holistic support throughout a family’s journey - and spoke about the challenging times hospices are facing.
Care Minister Stephen Kinnock was also in attendance and talked through the development of the Modern Service Framework, which was announced last year and will focus on shifting care out of hospitals and into community settings to ensure personalised, compassionate support for individuals of all ages and their families.
APPGs are cross-party groups of MPs and peers. The APPG for children who need palliative care aims to educate, inform and motivate other parliamentarians to take action to transform the lives of children and young people across the UK with life-limiting and life-threatening conditions.
