Ben's story
Ben was only 17 when he died, just seven months after being diagnosed with cancer. Demelza has been at his family’s side ever since, helping them find ways to cope with that unimaginable loss.
From neonatal visits, care at home, short breaks and sibling activities, to memory making, end of life care and bereavement support, Demelza has been there for Rae Rae and her family at every step.

It can be hard work caring for a complex child 24/7, but Demelza is there for Tom’s whole family – from helping them connect with other families who understand, to making sure they can all be together for life’s precious moments, big or small.
Joshua died from an aggressive form of cancer just days before his 13th birthday. He came to Demelza’s bereavement suite, where his family could spend more precious time together and be with him on his last birthday.
Within a year, Jude went from being a healthy nine-year-old, to not being able to walk or talk and needing a ventilator to help him breathe. Demelza’s support has meant his family have found ways to keep making amazing memories together.
“Fenton is 17, so at the moment he is still accessing all of Demelza’s services. I appreciate that numerically, maybe, Fenton is nearly an adult now, but actually nothing has changed. If anything, as he’s got older, his needs have got more profound."
