London Marathon runners raise record amount for Demelza
This year's London Marathon runners have raised a record amount for Demelza.
A total of 45 people took part in the 26.2 mile race to raise funds for Demelza on Sunday.
They were among 59,000 people who took to the streets of the capital to take part in the 46th London Marathon.
This year’s run was record-breaking as it saw the first ever official sub two-hour marathon, achieved by Kenyan Sabastian Sawe.
It also broke records for Demelza as the 45 runners raised an incredible £152,151 - the most the event has ever brought in for the charity.
As well as inspiring members of the public who chose to run for Demelza, there were also three members of staff, a volunteer, an associate trustee, nine corporate supporters and eight family members who have been supported by the charity.
A team of staff and volunteers from Demelza headed up to London to cheer on the runners and provide refreshments as they made their way past some of the city’s most iconic landmarks.
Senior Events Executive Emily Lofts, who coordinated the Demelza team, said: “We’re absolutely delighted with how many runners we had this year and the incredible amount they’ve raised.
“We’re so proud of every one of them. It’s a fantastic achievement and we’re so grateful they chose to support Demelza.
“It’s always such a phenomenal atmosphere at the London Marathon and we love being part of it.
“The amazing amount of money raised will make such a difference to the children and families we support.”
Applications are now open for the 2027 London Marathon. You have the chance to join Demelza’s team next year by applying for a charity place and by entering the ballot – where you have the option to double your chances.
