Demelza to host neonatal study day for nurses
Children's charity Demelza is to host a neonatal study day for nurses to explore the importance of neonatal palliative and hospice care.
The free event has been organised by the Children’s Hospices Across London (CHaL) group and is being held at Demelza’s hospice in Wensley Close, Eltham, on Monday 11 May.
It has been designed to bring professionals together to share learning, case studies highlighting real examples of collaborative working in complex neonatal journeys and best practice in neonatal palliative and hospice care.
It will cover symptom management, palliative and hospice care from early involvement (prenatal) to end of life care and bereavement support for families.
The Demelza team will also talk through its in-reach work - building strong partnerships with hospital staff to identify children who could benefit from its services and raising awareness of children’s hospices and the value of paediatric palliative care. In-reach also helps with a child’s continuity of care by ensuring families are informed and supported.
In addition, the day will be an opportunity for attendees to gain an insight into the role of Demelza’s family support service, including memory-making and complimentary therapies.
Demelza’s Deputy Director of Nursing, Dave Winch, said: “This study day will be a great opportunity for professionals to come along and spend some time hearing from people who are experts in the field of children’s palliative and hospice care.
“With case studies woven throughout, there will be meaningful opportunities for discussion and shared learning.
“We want to share the vast experience we have and share the approaches that help make death a gentler experience for children and their families.”
