Demelza represented at King’s royal garden party
Representatives from Demelza have attended a royal garden party hosted by King Charles today (Friday).
The event was held at Buckingham Palace and is one of several parties His Majesty and Queen Camilla will host this summer to honour members of the public, with a particular focus on celebrating frontline workers.
More than 30,000 people are invited to the parties each year, which begin with the royal family arriving and the national anthem, before guests can enjoy music, afternoon tea and a chance to look round the palace gardens.
Demelza’s Children’s Palliative Care Nurse and Community Team Lead Beth Helen and volunteers Cathy Gundry and Heather Bruce were all in attendance.
They were nominated to attend by Demelza’s CEO Lavinia Jarrett, who was asked to put forward a selection of people to receive an invite.
She said: “Nominating individuals is always hard, so I chose 10 people I thought were representative of the great work Demelza does from across our sites and from different teams.
“Beth, Cathy and Heather work tirelessly in their roles and are always willing to help, keeping children and families at the centre of what they do.
“I feel very proud they were able to fly the Demelza flag on behalf of everyone at such a special event.”
They all said they had a wonderful time at the event and Cathy said it was a very special day.
Beth added: "It was a truly wonderful experience. It was a privilege to meet so many interesting people in such a beautiful setting, and I am very grateful to have had the opportunity to attend."
And Heather said: "What a privilege to receive an invitation from His Majesty and be made to feel welcome and special by everyone we encountered during the afternoon.
"My Demelza Queens volunteer award was prominent on my jacket and the work of Demelza featured in many conversations throughout the afternoon.
"I now have an extra special memory to add to ones that volunteering for Demelza over the past 21 years has brought me."
“I feel very proud Beth, Cathy and Heather were able to fly the Demelza flag on behalf of everyone at such a special event.”
