Dedicated Demelza supporter reaches fundraising milestone after 20th golf day

Alan Pickrell golf day

A dedicated Demelza supporter has reached an impressive fundraising milestone after hosting his 20th golf day.

Fundraiser Alan Pickrell and his family have been supporting Demelza for more than 20 years. He and his wife Debbie got involved after hearing someone speak about the charity at a pub fundraising event.

Since then, Alan has been a dedicated fundraiser, attending and organising numerous golf days. He also created the Teddy Bear Ball, which has been a popular event for Demelza for many years.

The most recent golf day took place at Westerham Golf Club yesterday (Monday) and was so successful, Alan has now raised more than £300,000 for Demelza over the years.

More than 90 golfers went along, many who attend every year, and the event was also supported by former Charlton manager Alan Curbishley and ex-Chelsea, Charlton and West Ham player Scott Minto.

Guests enjoyed a breakfast, 18 holes of golf, a two-course dinner and activities including a raffle and auction. There was also a talk about Demelza and the charity’s work supporting children with serious or life-limiting conditions and their families.

Alan was given a standing ovation to mark his 20 years of fundraising.

Demelza’s Senior Philanthropy Fundraiser, Clare Emmett, said: “It’s amazing to have supporters like Alan and his family who are just so dedicated to the cause.

“We are so grateful for everything he has done and it’s been a pleasure and a privilege to work alongside him over the years.”
