Celebrity Ambassador Cheryl Baker encourages people to join her in volunteering for Demelza
Celebrity Ambassador Cheryl Baker is encouraging people to follow her lead and give their time to Demelza to mark Volunteers' Week.
The Bucks Fizz star, who has supported Demelza since the beginning, regularly volunteers in the charity’s Tonbridge shop.
Volunteers’ Week is an annual UK-wide celebration to highlight the incredible work of more than 14 million people who give their time for good causes across the country.
The campaign, which runs this week, gives organisations and communities a platform to highlight and thank their current and past volunteers for their invaluable efforts.
Demelza is supported by more than 1,000 incredible volunteers who give their time in a range of areas, from helping in Demelza’s shops and at fundraising events to supporting staff at our hospices and working directly with families.
Cheryl officially opened the Tonbridge shop for Demelza in 2018 and has been volunteering there for the last two years.
She said she decided to start volunteering when she realised she had the free time to do so.
“I’m an ambassador and I have done lots of other things for Demelza and I had some free time and thought I could do something to practically support Demelza when I can,” she said.
“It’s very sociable – I love chatting to people and do see regulars come in.
“The girls and guys here are lovely - it’s a really nice workforce and very sociable.
“It’s a good way to do your shopping as well, I often come in and think ‘oh this is nice’ and buy something.”
Cheryl said she would encourage anyone that’s thinking of volunteering to take the next step and apply.
Demelza has roles for everyone, no matter how much time you can give.
