Everyday family life

Demelza is here to help families feel equipped to cope at every stage of their child’s life, and beyond.

We understand the strain that caring for a child with a terminal condition can place on the whole family. Without support, many parents struggle to find any form of respite and some find it difficult to even leave the house. Under such pressure families can fall apart. Demelza is here to make sure every child and their family gets the best possible care.

Helping the whole family build precious memories

We look after mums, dad, brothers, sisters and grandparents, making sure they always have somewhere to turn when times are hard.

Choice and control over how your child is cared for

While some aspects of our care can be received in the child’s own home, families can also access wonderful facilities at our two hospices – Demelza Kent in Sittingbourne and Demelza SEL in Eltham. Our aim is to make life better for families by building up their strength and confidence to care for their child, while also supporting them through challenging times.

Care for the whole family

Taking care of a child with a terminal condition can be one of the most draining and difficult tasks a parent, grandparent or carer can face.

Beyond handling physical challenges and medical needs, they must deal with a child's emotional needs and the impact that a prolonged condition or illness can have on the entire family.

This tough balancing act doesn't have to be done alone - Demelza is here to support the whole family with:
