Kent schools and community groups invited to design sculpture
Schools and community groups in Kent are being invited to sign up to choose, design and keep a sculpture as part of an art trail coming to Tunbridge Wells next summer.
Children’s charity Demelza has teamed up with Wild in Art to hold Trail with a Tale, which will see 10 individually designed sculptures installed around the town to create a journey of discovery that will be free, family-friendly and open to all.
Tunbridge Wells children’s author Alex Brooks is also on-board and will be writing original stories for each of the sculptures, bringing the trail to life for children.
Demelza is offering local schools, nurseries and community groups the chance to get involved by signing up to design their own, smaller animal sculpture. As well as choosing which animal they would like (tortoise, hare, owl or snail), each group that signs up will receive a resource pack filled with lesson plans, templates and activities, making it easy to integrate this creative project into the curriculum.
Each school will receive their own sculpture to design and paint and will be supported to fundraise for Demelza throughout the year.
Trail with a Tale Learning Programme Lead, Loren Regan, said: “We’re really excited about Trail with a Tale and even more so to get teachers and community group leaders on board to inspire children to be part of this spectacular event.
“All groups that choose to design their own will have their sculpture displayed in a high-profile location in Tunbridge Wells to showcase your amazing creativity.
“The trail is something new for Demelza. As well as raising awareness of the services we offer to children with serious or life-limiting conditions and their families in the area, it will also generate income for Demelza to continue to provide extraordinary care for extraordinary children.”
