The installation of the new Archbishop of Canterbury, Dame Sarah Mullally, has taken place today (Wednesday).

Staff from Demelza were at the ceremony, which was held at Canterbury Cathedral and marks the enthronement of the 106th Archbishop of Canterbury and the first female to hold the position.

The role of the Archbishop of Canterbury has always acted as a Vice President for Demelza and Dame Sarah has committed to continuing this support.

Every year, Demelza holds its flagship fundraising event, Celebration of Christmas, at the world-famous cathedral and the charity has always worked closely with the Archbishop and the cathedral.

Demelza’s Deputy CEO Hayley Richardson, Director of Clinical Services Katie Stevens and Trustee Richard Finn were all at the installation today.

Hayley said: “It was an honour to be invited to Dame Sarah Mullally’s installation ceremony.

"We are looking forward to working closely with the Archbishop to highlight the work we do at Demelza, delivering expert clinical care, emotional support and practical help to children with serious or life-limiting conditions."

Dame Sarah Mullally is the first woman to hold the post of Archbishop of Canterbury in its 1,400-year history.

"It was an honour to be invited to Dame Sarah Mullally’s installation ceremony."
