Demelza is delighted to announce the appointment of a consultant paediatrician.

Dr Shiri Lejay joined the team today (Monday 3 November) and will be primarily based at our hospice in Eltham, with regular visits to the Kent and East Sussex sites.

The decision to appoint a consultant paediatrician reflects the increasingly complex clinical needs of the children and families Demelza supports. Dr Lejay’s expertise will be a vital addition to Demelza’s specialist teams, helping meet the evolving demands within paediatric palliative care.

Having completed specialist training in paediatric palliative care at Great Ormond Street Hospital, Dr Lejay brings a wealth of knowledge and experience. She will work closely with colleagues at Evelina London Children’s Hospital, which refers many children to Demelza, further strengthening partnerships.

Her role is designed to complement Demelza’s nurse-led services and will offer families and staff an expert source of clinical guidance and support.

Demelza’s Director of Clinical Services, Katie Stevens, said: “This appointment is an important step for Demelza.

“Dr Lejay’s highly sought-after training in paediatric palliative care and her experience with the teams at Great Ormond Street will bring invaluable expertise to our services.

“Her presence will help strengthen our relationship with Evelina’s specialist teams, improving the timeliness and ease of referrals.

“We’re thrilled to welcome her to the team and anticipate her involvement will support children and families, whilst enhancing the professional development of our clinical staff. This will ensure Demelza can continue to grow as a research-active, sector-leading service at the forefront of children’s palliative care.”

“Dr Lejay’s highly sought-after training in paediatric palliative care and her experience with the teams at Great Ormond Street will bring invaluable expertise to our services."
