Aimee's supporter story: for friends and family

“My family has been supported by Demelza for 14 years, so a long time! Jamie is my big brother, and he was diagnosed at just three years old with multiple genetic conditions, including Hypomelanosis of Ito, which causes seizures. Jamie is also registered deafblind and has autism.

“Demelza have helped me and my family so much, so if I can help in any way, so that other families can get the support and experiences we’ve had, then I want to do that.

“I chose the Skydive challenge because I wanted to feel like I’m flying – it just seems really fun! I did it for Demelza, but also in memory of Lolo, Summer and Marshall, who were also supported by Demelza. We lost Lolo and Summer last year, and Marshall nearly 10 years ago. They were all very, very young and we were really close – they were like our Demelza family. That was really hard.

“It’s great to raise awareness for Demelza and the support they provide, but you also want to show people that Demelza is a hospice, and unfortunately you do lose people. I wanted to show people those beautiful faces we lost, that these are the children you are raising money for.

“Doing a skydive was on my bucket list, so when I saw it on the website I knew I had to go for it. Especially since it was only £50 to take part, when normally you’d pay like £300 for an experience that. I had to raise a minimum of £550 for Demelza and I managed to get to £670. I’ve just been sharing it everywhere on social media - literally everywhere!

“I did the Firewalk before and managed to raise £400, so I’ve raised a total of around £1000 for Demelza so far, but I want to do more! I’d love to do a sponsored Bubble Rush – we went to one with Jamie, pushing his wheelchair through the bubbles and it was so fun.

“I want to do the London Marathon, that’s on my bucket list as well, so I would do that for Demelza. I’d also like to do one of the cycles, and maybe even the Everest trip! That does look really cool.

“For me, it’s about that adrenaline rush and trying something new – I’m always up for a challenge. As soon as I did the Firewalk I wanted to do it again!

“If you’re thinking about doing a challenge, just do it. You work yourself up so much, but once you’ve done it, it’s so fun. You’re doing something you’ve never done before, you’re having fun while you’re doing it, and you’re raising money for a great cause, it’s three-in-one!”
