We are all Team Demelza

We value, celebrate and embrace the unique differences and talents that make Demelza so special.

Equality, diversity and inclusion are part of who we are

It’s important to us that:

  • All people feel welcome and comfortable when receiving our care and support.

  • We are a diverse staff and volunteer community and we can all benefit from the innovation and richness that brings.

  • We play our part in making a fairer society by tackling prejudice and privilege.

What we’re doing

We’ll always continue to grow our knowledge, skills and awareness of diversity. To think about how we can improve our care and support for people from all cultures, those with faiths, beliefs and religions, and those without.

We proactively seek to identify and remove prejudice and discriminatory practices relating to race, ethnicity, culture, sex, sexuality, gender and transgender, disability, age, marriage or partnership status, and social class.

We haven’t reached everyone yet. But we’re doing our best to build a network who can help us extend our reach and engage with even more communities. We publish plans in our strategy to keep us on track, and keep us accountable.

Working to improve racial equality

We have committed to further improve in terms of racial equality.

Whilst we’re proud that the profiles of our service-users match the ethnic profiles of the communities where we work, this is not always the case for our workforce or leadership roles. We’re working on it, with support, for the benefit of the people and communities we serve and to improve our organisation. We welcome the advice and guidance of anyone who can help us achieve this goal.

We’re committed to FREDIE

Demelza has received a Silver Award from Investors in Diversity, which recognises an organisation’s efforts to improve equality, diversity and inclusion.

The FREDIE principles of Fairness, Respect, Equality, Diversity, Inclusion and Engagement underpin everything we do at Demelza, every day – from the care services we deliver, to our volunteering and job opportunities.
