What we have in place:
  • Designated safeguarding lead, adult safeguarding lead named nurse for safeguarding children and safeguarding leads – all with PREVENT training.  
  • Safeguarding assurance committee.  
  • Extensive child and adult safeguarding policies. 
  • Safer recruitment, including enhanced DBS checks.  
  • All staff, volunteers and trustees receive an introduction to safeguarding during their induction.  
  • All staff, including non-clinical managers and trustees complete level 1 safeguarding adults and children e-learning.  
  • All staff, volunteers and clinical governance trustees undertaking hospice related activities but not directly working with children and families undertake level 2 safeguarding e-learning and attend a face to face update every three years.  
  • Anyone working directly with children and families undertake level 3 safeguarding training every 3 years, with an annual face to face update.  
  • Designated safeguarding and PREVENT leads undertake level 4 safeguarding training.  
  • The designated lead and named nurse undertake level 5 safeguarding training, and the safeguarding leads undertake level 4. 
  • Line managers attend safe recruitment training. 
  • Designated Freedom to Speak up Guardian.

What we do
  • Safeguarding is an agenda item at the bi-weekly clinical safety meeting.  
  • Safeguarding is discussed at monthly multi-disciplinary team and safeguarding meetings.  

  • Quarterly safeguarding audits are undertaken.  

  • An annual safeguarding report is presented to the clinical governance committee.  

  • The safeguarding children and adults policy and procedure are reviewed every three years.  

  • The safeguarding assurance committee meet quarterly to review safeguarding practices.  

  • Safeguarding is a standard agenda item at every clinical governance committee meeting.  

  • Safeguarding is a standard agenda item at every trustee board meeting.  

  • Our training is aligned with the intercollegiate document (RCN, 2019).
