Sibling support
Having a sibling with a serious or life-limiting condition can bring a range of confusing and conflicting emotions. We’re here to give brothers and sisters the chance to understand and express their often complex feelings.

For fun, friendship and therapeutic support
At Demelza, we know that for children and young people who have a sibling with a serious or life-limiting condition, spending time with others in similar situations can make a real difference.
Group activities, individual therapy sessions, or simply having fun with peers can offer a safe space to explore and manage emotions. These moments of connection, play and understanding can be incredibly powerful in helping young people feel seen, heard and supported. We also recognise that every family is different, and there’s no one-size-fits-all approach.
Our support
Our sibling support is tailored to different age groups, and includes a mix of fun and engaging activities, plus therapeutic and emotional support. We offer both one to one and group sessions, which can also help them build a community of friends.
Under 5s
If you are looking for support for a sibling aged under five then you can contact the family liaison team for advice and help finding relevant guidance and resources.
One-to-one support
Siblings are invited to take part in our monhly online sessions for both younger (5-11) and older (12-16) siblings. These themed sessions offer the opportunity for siblings to meet others and enjoy some crafting fun. Sessions could include making slime, building Lego, creating chocolate creatures and more!
Activity sessions
As part of our seasonal programmes, you can sign up to activity sessions for both younger (5-11) and older (12-17) siblings. Activities will vary for each season, but examples include zoo trips, trampoline parks, picnics, crafting sessions etc. Places for these sessions are limited.
Sibling residentials
Each year, we host an overnight residential for siblings in years five and six. Packed with fun activities, these trips help children transition to their last year of primary or first year of secondary school, building skills like problem-solving, teamwork and confidence.
In 2025, there will also be an opportunity for siblings in years 10 and 11 to attend the Young Carers Festival. Places for these trips are limited.
"I like it when we go to Demelza and see people that we know and just have lots of fun. I always feel excited and happy to be going there, because I know my little sister is going to be happy."
