Art, Music and Dance Movement

The need for interaction, communication and self-expression is important for everyone, and especially children with serious or life-limiting conditions.

Our individual and group sessions can be accessed at home, school, at our hospices and online and include music, art and even reflexology.

Our support

Creative arts therapy sessions are a chance for children and families to explore and express emotions and deal with difficult experiences through creativity

Virtual music groups

Get together and sing, dance and have fun. Our virtual music groups are 45 minutes of fun for the whole family on Thursdays after school and evenings, Friday afternoons, and most Saturday mornings. Run by a music therapist who works with themed music and songs, ranging from gentle and relaxing to lively.

Therapy groups

Take a look at our seasonal events and activities for opportunities to join in and get creative and crafty. From art therapy groups to choir days, there’s a lot in the calendar for families come together and sing or enjoy music.

Music sensory bags

Themed to the four seasons, our music sensory bags contain a Soundlink to 30 minutes of music and a sensory item per track for your child to explore while listening. These bags are suitable for younger children and young people who benefit from sensory experiences.

If you’d like to register for a sensory bag, get in touch with the team on familysupportdepartment@demelza.org.uk or call us on 01795 845280 (Monday – Friday, 10am – 4pm).

Art therapy

Every picture tells a story and art therapy helps children and families to tell theirs. For many, it’s sometimes easier to express feelings and experiences through art. While these sessions are guided by therapists, the artwork is led by the child or family, giving us a focus for discussion. Individual, family and group sessions are available face to face or online.
