Dr Richard Patey is a consultant paediatrician at Medway NHS Foundation Trust, with a specialist interest in gastroenterology.

He also serves as the designated doctor for child safeguarding at Kent and Medway Integrated Care Board.

Richard is passionate about improving outcomes for children through his work in clinical governance, teaching, and research. His academic contributions include advancing narrative medicine in paediatric practice and exploring pulmonary function in sickle cell disease.

He is actively involved in medical education, delivering training in good clinical practice, undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and safeguarding for doctors at all levels.

Richard has received several prestigious awards, including the Hopkin’s Prize for Anaesthetics, the McElwain Prize from the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health and a Chief Constable’s Commendation from Kent Constabulary.
