Last month, a group of willing participants headed to the Headcorn Aerodrome to take part in our charity tandem skydive challenge! Fundraiser and first-time skydiver, Malcolm, has shared his reflections on the experience:
"A parachute jump has always been on my bucket list but I have always found a reason not to do it.
"So when my wife suggested that I jump for Demelza, I found it impossible to wriggle out of it – tick off my bucket list and raise money
for an amazing charity – hard to find a reason not to. My wife works for Demelza running the Hythe shop, I am slightly in awe of her and her army of volunteers, the passion and drive they all have to raise money to help the children and their families.
"Not everyone has either the desire or time to help out in the shops but this offered me a way to raise money and volunteer in a way that suited me. I signed up with a feeling that maybe I had bitten off more than I could chew, £500 seems such a big target when you first set out but then you begin to realise how much generosity there is out in the world and the love for Demelza. Social media comes into its own and the money comes in from unexpected people along the way.
"Was it worth it – I have done some extreme sports and some crazy things in my life, and this ranks in the top 2 for me (number 1 was diving with hammerhead sharks), it literally takes your breath away and truly makes you feel alive.
"Once the canopy opens the gentle ride down is awesome and you just want to do it all over again."
"So back to the original question, why jump out of a perfectly good plane? It's great fun, exhilarating and above all, it raises money for this incredible cause. Thank you Demelza and thank you to every person who donated!".
