Practical support

Practical support volunteers offer help with day-to-day tasks, so families can focus on their care commitments and enjoy their time together. This may be helping with anything from grocery shopping, DIY or offering driving support to and from appointments.

"Driving [Zak and his family] to and from appointments took the stress away from them, as driving to a hospital can be a stressful thing. I was always there on time and waiting for them when they came out. I never wanted them to have to worry about where I am." - David, practical support volunteer.

Our friendly housekeeping team in help keep our hospices clean, bright and welcoming for the children and families in our care.

By supporting our team with day-to-day cleaning tasks, such as vacuuming, ironing and dusting, you will ensure the children and their loved ones can spend as much time together as possible being a family.

“The best thing about volunteering at Demelza is the warmth and friendliness of all the staff and volunteers. You immediately become part of the team and feel like you are making a valuable contribution to their work.” - Clare, housekeeping volunteer since 2012.

Our charity shops provide an important income stream for Demelza and are supported by an incredible team of volunteers who give their time an energy to create spaces people want to spend time in.

Clare has been a retail volunteer for over three years now and shares: “If you’re thinking about volunteering, do it! I have gotten so much for volunteering, I’ve gained communication skills and so much confidence. I’ve also got skills that I can include on my CV. At the end of the day, I feel tired but accomplished. It is so much more than the skills you gain, it is that sense of pride you feel at the end of the day.”

Claire has sleek, light purple hair and is wearing a vibrant blue patterned blouse.

Fundraising is crucial for us to reach our £1.5million target each year. Our charity fundraising volunteers help us engage with the public to boost donations for Demelza. From being on the phones to supporting with campaigns, helping with collection pots or being an ambassador; if you’re good with the public and have a passion for our cause, we would love you to volunteer for Demelza.
