Up a hill, off the North Cray Road dual-carriageway, you will unexpectedly find yourself in a quiet rural setting with the sounds of the countryside. Come and wander through an acre of miniature park, a large garden with its rich variety of mature, deciduous and conifer trees and wealth of shrubs and herbaceous plants. You will find many hidden features including a koi pond, gazebo, a fairy garden and a ‘secret garden’ complete with fountain, all linked by winding paths and grassy stretches with plenty of shade on sunny days. Enjoy tea and cake on a wide terrace fringed with a colourful array of pots and containers. The versatile and very popular Greenwich Concert Band will be entertaining our visitors alternating with the talented classical guitarist Osamu Yano.
Dogs on leads are welcome.
Admission £3.50 (Children 50p.)
How to get there:
Parsonage Lane is roughly halfway along the North Cray Road on the opposite carriageway to Foots Cray Meadows and St James Church. It is best accessed (less restricted passing) by approaching it from Bunkers Hill, the turning before Parsonage Lane, roughly just over a half mile from the mini roundabout at the Bexley end of the dual-carriageway – adjacent to Penhill Nurseries and almost opposite The White Cross pub. At the top of Bunkers Hill turn right into Cocksure Lane and then again, at the end, turn right in to Parsonage Lane. Parking is in the field opposite Wychwood (unless very wet) or as directed by Demelza stewards.
The 492 bus stops in the North Cray Road (both directions) at the bottom of Parsonage Lane close to St James Church. Walk up the lane (a short steep hill) past Weatherley Fencing. Wychwood is two houses past North Cray Riding Stables.
