"It’s been a tough year for us all and I think we can all agree that Covid-19 has affected many aspects of our normal lives in a way we could never have anticipated. In April last year, when it became evident that the direct results of the Coronavirus pandemic would significantly impact Demelza’s income, we looked to our corporate partners for their continued support. And they proved more than a match to the challenge ahead. Over the course of the next six months, the support from our long-term corporate partners has proved invaluable, allowing us to ensure we could still provide vital care to children with serious or terminal conditions and their families for as long as we’re needed.
Axis Europe and their inspiring Foundation have been supporting Demelza Hospice Care for Children now for over 17 years and we are so grateful that their support didn’t falter at the outset of the pandemic. The team at Axis donated their highest amount ever in 2020; a phenomenal £106,326.75 from their 2019 fundraising efforts, including London to Brighton and the Big Half running challenges, skydives, volunteering days, charity golf days, fundraising balls with clients and of course much more. And, with traditional fundraising on the back burner as a result of lockdown restrictions, they took it upon themselves to run a Christmas campaign to raise additional funds in a time that was extremely uncertain.
We are so incredibly proud to announce that with the help of their employees, clients and customers, Axis raised a monumental amount of money which was kindly match funded by their Foundation, bringing their total to an additional £75,000. This magnificent sum will help us to continue to provide specialist care and emotional support to the children and families who access our services during these unprecedented times.
To put this amount into perspective, £75,000 is the equivalent of over 1,531 hours of expert, daytime care for a child or young person with a serious or terminal condition at one of our hospices or the cost of funding two specialist nurses for an entire year at Demelza; something Axis had taken it upon themselves to fund for Demelza in the past.
We’d also like to extend a special thanks to Axis’s clients, who have fundraised tirelessly to raise this substantial amount and these include:
