Here at Demelza, we’re extremely fortunate to be supported by an amazing team of dedicated volunteers that allow us to continue with the vital work that we do.

Our retail shops in particular rely heavily on the help of local people to maintain that important income stream, and while many of our volunteers have different reasons for coming onboard, for Paula, who volunteers in our Gillingham Outlet, it was an easy decision.

“Supporting Demelza is in my heart. My youngest daughter had many ‘sleepovers’ at Demelza Hospice, before she sadly died age 11. The care and support given to us as a family by the team at Demelza was a cushion to the worst of blows. I will spend the rest of my life trying to repay them in any way that I can.”

Having always enjoyed browsing local charity shops, Paula found her perfect role in one of our retail shops, where she lends a hand sorting and pricing donations, rotating stock and generally helping our customers in store.

"I became a volunteer at Demelza as I wanted to help, gain confidence and challenge myself. I’m shy by nature and volunteering is a wonderful way to boost self-esteem and make new friends. I have been made incredibly welcome at Demelza, they are a lovely team and we have many laughs.

To anyone thinking of volunteering, I would say just give it a go; there are so many rewards. From feeling useful, meeting new people, learning new skills to being part of a team - the list is endless!”.

Volunteering with Demelza can be a very rewarding experience and there’s probably more ways of doing it than you think. With flexible opportunities available not only within our shops, but also within our distribution warehouse and e-commerce team, we’ll help you find a role that is right for you.

You’ll receive full training and support throughout your role and rest assured that we’ve been working hard to ensure we’re as COVID safe as possible.
