Having to close our charity shop doors back in December 2020, the team seized their opportunity to make the most of the situation and got to work refurbishing and refreshing many of our 27 shops, ensuring they were looking their best for welcoming our dedicated supporters and bargain hunters back in. If you haven’t yet had a chance to visit your local shop, you can take a sneak peak at the most recent refurbishments at Canterbury and Rochester here.
It was great to see so many customers coming out to support us yesterday and our hard work behind the scenes paid off as shops saw a steady flow of customers, queues out the doors, and quadruple the income we would normally see in one day – one of Demelza’s best days ever for retail! A staggering 2,826 customers purchased pre-loved goods and second-hand steals, with ladies clothing, accessories and toys being some of the most popular items.
Donations were received steadily throughout the day, at allotted time slots so as not to overwhelm the shop floors, and every shop continues to have a focus on COVID safety measures to ensure the safety of shoppers, volunteers and staff. If you’re excited to browse, purchase, or donate at your nearest Demelza shop, you can find opening times and donation teams here – we’d love to see you!
As our shops welcome some normality back into our lives, we’re in need of volunteers to support our 27 shop branches across Kent, South East London, and East Sussex. Volunteer roles range from pricing and till handling, to sorting through donations and creating our beautiful window displays. There’s something for everyone, so if you’re interested in being part of #TeamDemelza you can read more and get in touch via our volunteer webpage.
The next few weeks and months are crucial to Demelza’s income to help make up the shortfall from the COVID-19 pandemic, but our dedicated Retail Team are ready for the challenge, and excited to welcome you back.
