Our care team helps families to think about their wishes when their child is dying. Some may choose to come to our hospices for end of life care, and we will liaise with all professionals known to the child, ensuring they are cared for in the best possible way.
Memory making is a very important part of this time, and our team will support families in making these last days special, according to their own particular wishes.
Some families may choose to stay at home or in a hospital and come to the hospice after their child has died. Our special bedrooms – the Butterfly Suite at Demelza SEL and the Hop Garden at Demelza Kent – enable a family to stay close to their child for up to five days before the funeral.
Whatever your wishes, our specialist and compassionate care team can offer support, advice and practical help through this very difficult time.
Care does not stop after a child or young person dies.
Demelza will continue to provide practical and emotional support for the whole family. Our aim is to help families understand their loss and begin to face life, whilst remembering their child.
Families will receive invitations to Bereavement Remembrance events held by Demelza, including a Snowdrop planting in spring, a Bereaved Family Event in summer and Candlelight event in winter.
