The death of a child will always be heart breaking, Demelza can't change that, but we can help to make the child's death as stress-free as possible for the family. With your help we aim to raise £25,000 to refurbish our bereavement suites and help support families through their grief.
The Demelza Care Team helps families organise their thoughts and wishes when their child is dying. Some may choose to come to our hospices for end of life care, and we will liaise with the professional known to the family.
Before the funeral, families can choose to use one of our dedicated bereavement suites, known at Demelza South East London as the Butterfly Suite, these are specially chilled bedrooms where the child can be laid to rest. Having this private space to say goodbye and spend time together as a family, is a crucial first step in the grieving process. Through different therapies, memory making and the space we offer, our team will be there to help, in whatever way the family needs.
Our bereavement suites at South East London have been used by countless families in the past ten years, whether they have previously used our services or not. Both bereavement suites are in dire need of an update to make them more homely, comfortable and accessible. Currently both rooms are clean and usable, but they are quite basic, and clinical looking and outdated for providing such an important service.
With your support, we can give families as much choice and comfort as possible at such a sad time, so they can focus on spending precious time together in a place they can feel at ease - please donate whatever you can.
Please also help us to spread the word about our appeal by joining up to our Pack, telling your friends, family and work colleagues, and sharing our posts on social media.
