Director of Fundraising and Marketing
Tamsyn studied Law and Politics at Cardiff University and started her events career in the corporate hospitality sector. She made a conscious move to the charity sector in 2000.
Her first charity role was at Marie Curie Cancer Care where she organised corporate and special events. After progressing quickly through the team, she moved to Help the Aged where she led a team of events fundraisers across all event disciplines and managed their celebrity arm, Stage for Age.
After covering a more senior role as a maternity cover and a secondment in new product development, she moved to Capital Radio as Help a London Child’s Fundraising Manager.
Whilst at Help a London Child, she developed all forms of fundraising and used her experience at national charities to improve income across corporate fundraising, direct marketing, on-air appeals and events. During this time, the charity’s profitability improved by 32%.
Following a takeover of a larger radio group (Global Radio), Tamsyn assumed responsibility of Classic FM’s charity as well as creating a new national charity brand for Heart Radio. Tamsyn worked with her team and senior management at Global Radio to create a strategy that not only delivered in terms of income (£3m) but also creating great events, on-air content and CSR opportunities for the radio brands.
Tamsyn was also seconded to Capital Radio to manage a special campaign known as “Lights Out London”. The campaign won a coveted Sony Radio Academy Award as well as Radio Academy Promotion and Marketing Award: Best Event, a European Radio Award, Environment Award and a Green Award, Best Radio Event.
Just prior to going on maternity leave, Tamsyn reported to the board, working as the Interim Director of Charities managing all aspects of the charity including grant-giving and operations.
Following the birth of her first child, Tamsyn moved to the Cystic Fibrosis Trust as Marketing Director. She managed the whole fundraising portfolio (£10m) plus the brand, communications and digital strategy. A key achievement during this role was her leadership on the new brand for the charity, which won a Brand Impact Award 2014 plus an “in-book” for the prestigious D&AD awards.
After the birth of her second child, Tamsyn has been freelancing doing a variety of projects including a major gala event for Waitrose, managing a community website, brand development, copywriting plus she writes for a local magazine, Meridian.
Tamsyn lives in Chislehurst with her husband and two boys, Edward and Sebastian. In her spare time, Tamsyn is a Governor at her son’s school and a Volunteer Director for her local town’s community website and business group.
Tamsyn joined the Demelza as Director of Marketing & Fundraising in November 2016. She has worked in marketing and communications since 1998 and started her charity career working in events.
