There were smiles all round for a mum and daughter who struck lucky in this year's Demelza prize draw.
Barbara Bell from Bromley was thrilled to learn she had won the first prize of a shiny new Fiat 500 - but there was just one small problem. Mrs Bell (74) doesn’t drive!
Instead, Mrs Bell decided to give her prize to daughter Helen, an accountant with the NHS.
The pair are regular attenders at the Demelza Christmas Carol Concert in Greenwich and always buy the Demelza Draw tickets when they drop through the door.
Barbara said: “I didn’t believe that I had won at first. I've never won anything before. Then the garage called to arrange collection, so I knew it must be true.”
Barbara and Helen collected the car from the Thames Motor Group in Tunbridge Wells, where showroom manager Paul Harrison was delighted to hand over the keys.
He said: “We were pleased to support Demelza’s draw, which raised in the region of £20,000.”
Mrs Bell and Helen have pledged to be among the crowds at this year’s Demelza Greenwich Carol Concert , which takes place in the Cutty Sark Gardens on December 18 from 5–6.30pm - especially now they have a shiny new set of wheels to get them there!
The winning ticket was drawn out of the drum at Demelza Kent’s Community Fun Day on Sunday 25 September. Other prizes up for grabs included a second prize of £300, third prize of £100 and 16 runner-up prizes of £25.
