Walk this Way 50k for #TeamDemelza

27 May 2016
Supporters of a children’s charity took on an epic 50k challenge.

Walkers trekked between Demelza Hospice Care for Children’s hospices in Rook Lane, Bobbing and its facility in Wensley Close, Eltham or vice versa on Saturday (21 May.)

Seventy six people took part in the second event of its kind, taking between 9 hours and 12 and a half hours to complete the route. Walkers ranged in age from 15 to 73 years old, with someone even celebrating their 50th birthday on the day.

John Bull did the walk along with three friends in memory of his friend Mandy Coppen who took part in the event last year.

John and his friends battled blisters to complete the walk in around 11 hours and have raised over £1,000.

John, from Sidcup, said: “I don’t know how we done it but we did. It was hard. But it was really worthwhile doing.”

Events Manager Emma Middleton said: “Well done to all of our amazing walkers who completed the equivalent of an ultra marathon for #TeamDemelza. Thanks also to everyone who made the walk possible including the fantastic Twin Restaurants who sponsored the event and loaned the use of their restaurants in Gravesend, Dartford and Bexleyheath for water stops. Watch this space for details of next year’s walk!”
