Demelza and Kent FA make a winning team

27 January 2016

We’re over the moon about our partnership with Kent FA, supported by Kent Schools FA, in a fundraising drive that will bring together the whole football family in the county.

We need schools, youth and adult football team and businesses throughout Kent to sign up and take part in some champion fundraising activities related to the beautiful game – with prizes for those that make it to the top of the league.

One of our goals is to update the soft play room at our Demelza Kent hospice. This is a safe and fun space where the children in our care can relax and play using specialist sensory equipment. Your funds will help us refurbish the room and to support the great work our team of care nurses do around the clock assisting young people with life-limiting and life-threatening conditions.

Football-loving Lewis, 10, is one the youngsters to benefit from all that’s on offer at the hospice. He loves playing FIFA on the Xbox and swimming in the hydrotherapy pool. For Arsenal fan Lewis, from Gillingham, time spent at Demelza is a welcome break between chemotherapy sessions for leukaemia and frequent hospital admissions.

Backing the Kent FA campaign, his mum Debbie said: “Demelza is a fantastic place for children to come to, it gives them a chance to relax and recharge themselves and also gives parents respite too. It's an invaluable service that relies on fundraising.”

Kent FA and Kent Schools FA help provide safe and structured football opportunities for the benefit of all, and understand the importance of allowing children of all abilities to interact and play together.

“The county is extremely fortunate to have a fantastic charity like Demelza supporting families at their greatest time of need. We hope lots of schools, businesses and clubs will join the partnership, have lots of fun and fundraise.”
