Volunteer Nathan becomes Assistant Manager

Ever considered volunteering with a view to furthering your career and securing paid employment? Well, Nathan, who started volunteering in our West Wickham charity shop back in 2021 has just celebrated not only his 21st birthday but also his first day as Assistant Manager in our newly-revamped shop in West Wickham in Kent!

After a successful application and interview process Nathan, who was offered the job in December, said: “I’ve had a busy few weeks training at the Demelza charity shops in Sittingbourne and Eltham and have completed some online courses too. I didn’t think when I started volunteering last year that I would be an Assistant Manager by the time my 21st birthday came around!”

Robin Watson, Area Retail Manager for Demelza, said: “We’re delighted to welcome Nathan on board. We’re hoping to recruit more volunteers to work in the shop and Nathan is proof that volunteering can lead to so much more”.

The recently refurbished shop was having a successful trade day too. Robin added: “Customer feedback has been fantastic this morning, they’ve really missed us! New flooring and a restyle has made the shop feel so much bigger and more up-to-date. And by 11, we’d already taken £300 in sales which is fantastic! Big shout out to all of the staff and volunteers who worked so hard to make this happen”.

Be sure to stop by our revamped West Wickham shop to pick up a bargain and say hi to Nathan and his team
