Lyn takes on a virtual marathon for Demelza

Last year Lyn was due to run the London Landmarks Half Marathon for a group of charities including Demelza, however due to COVID-19 the event was cancelled for 2020.

Not wanting her training to go to waste, Lyn planned a half marathon route around the local countryside instead and ended up raising an amazing £750.

Having surprised herself at how much she enjoyed the challenge, Lyn signed herself up for the virtual London Marathon 2021 to raise more money for Demelza. Setting off at 7.30am, Lyn completed various routes around Faversham, looping back past her parent's house throughout her run. Throughout the day she was cheered on by family and friends – some of whom even cycled and ran alongside her to keep up her spirits throughout the 26.2miles.

Lyn said; ‘I enjoyed most of the run, but I’m not going to lie it was tough and the last 10k was painful. My son Luke was running the last section with me and instead of running next to me he ran a good 5 paces in front - he knew if I was having to chase him I’d keep going, and it worked!’

Lyn is running in her dotty Demelza vest, with her thumbs up.

Lyn said a real boost for her was having friends, family and local children and families cheering her on towards the end, and she managed to raise an incredible £580. Thank you, Lyn, for all your training and hard work, and thank you to all of Lyn’s supporters who helped make it possible!
