As October comes to an end, so does Demelza’s inaugural Facebook fundraising challenge – the Demelza Step Challenge!

214 fundraisers took on the lofty goal of racking up 310,000 steps throughout the month of October – an average of 10,000 steps a day! Come rain or shine (and there was plenty of both as the month went on), our fitness fanatics pushed through and clocked their daily steps as they aimed to hit personal fundraising goals in support of Demelza’s vital services.

The challenge also helped foster a great sense of community amongst those who took it on; with participants comparing step counts and sharing words of encouragement within the exclusive Step Challenge Facebook group. Even those new to fitness could participate, giving them the unique chance to build a new walking or running habit with the support of a group of 200 people behind them.

The incredible team of fitness fundraisers managed to raise a phenomenal £2589.15 by the end of the challenge; these funds will help Demelza continue to provide expert clinical care and emotional support to children and young people with serious or terminal conditions, and their families.

Danielle, Senior Events Executive at Demelza, said: “It’s been great fun working on Demelza’s first Facebook fundraising challenge, and I would like to say a big thank you to everyone that took part. We’ve had fantastic support from day one and built a strong community hub within the group. Supporters were able to share their progress as the challenge went along, which kept many of us motivated for those colder days! For those that weren’t able to take part this time, we will be announcing a challenge for 2023, so keep your eyes peeled on our events page.”
