A magical start to Christmas for Demelza families thanks to the Hop Farm

Caitlin and SamTricia and KarenChristmas came early for some of the families being cared for by Demelza Hospice Care for Children.

Around 20 families who use Demelza's services across East Sussex, Kent and South East London were given the chance to enjoy the delights of Santa's Magical Kingdom at the Hop Farm, thanks to owner Peter Bull.

The festive treat included a greeting by Santa's elves, a chance to post a Christmas list up the magical chimney for Santa, make Christmas decorations and meet Mrs Christmas.

A puppet show and circus were among the other highlights before the ultimate Christmas treat of meeting Santa himself and receiving a festive gift.

One of the Demelza families who attended was Alexis Millar from Tunbridge Wells who took daughters, Faith, 8, and Mae, 6, along.

Faith is wheelchair-bound due to severe epilepsy and mum, Alexis, was impressed with the disabled access on the train and all the interactive activities.

She said: 'It was fun packed, we loved it. It was the best Father Christmas we have been to. He spent so much time with the children. We really enjoyed it, it was great.'

Ingrid Goodsell from Kingswood near Maidstone went along with husband, Barry and children Caitlin, four and Sam, six.

Caitlin has been receiving care from Demelza for around three years as she has congenital heart disease and also suffered a stroke.

Ingrid said of the visit: 'They thought it was magical, they loved it. They liked all the twinkling lights and they adored Father Christmas.'

The Keeler family from Bromley - Alan and Gill and daughter, Josie, 18, (who suffers from cockayne syndrome) also attended.

Alan said: 'Josie had a delightful time and we are grateful for the care Demelza and the Hop Farm gave us.'

Demelza's Area Fundraising Manager for West Kent, Karen Warner said: 'It truly was a magical evening. Our thanks go to all the staff at the Hop Farm for making this evening special for our families, and of course to Peter Bull for making this possible.'
