Taking to two wheels for Demelza

Eltham bike rideEltham bike rideA team from Lewisham Shopping Centre took to two wheels to raise money for Demelza.

Michael Moffatt, Paul Redden, Ashleigh Purser, Andrew Cook and Richard Huntley rode from the hospice in Eltham to Sittingbourne on Friday (August 21).

Richard and Andrew (who dressed as a clown) rode a tandem for the event which took just over five hours and raised £2,400.

Richard, who works in car park security at the centre, said: 'My legs are still aching from it! It was exhausting but we did it. We got a lot of toots and beeps on the way.'

The group are organising various events to raise money to pay for a minibus for the hospice in Wensley Close. So far they have raised around £16,000.

Terrie Kennor, Demelza's area fundraising manager for south east London, said: 'The staff from Lewisham Shopping Centre have been working hard for over a year now to raise the money to buy a minibus for the hospice in Eltham and this event was extremely tough for all the guys.

'Without people doing amazing challenges like this, we could not offer our services to local children who are not expected to live to adulthood. They should all be very proud of their achievement.'
